About Us
In 2019 on a sail across the Chesapeake Bay, Hannah Twiddy and Mia Guinan discussed sailing in Cape Charles…and here we are. Cape Charles Sailing Camp was founded and has grown to host multi-week summer camps, to include volunteer and counselor in training programs. We teach adult sailing courses, host events and regatta, and collaborate with local organizations on the Eastern Shore, Hampton Roads, and Northeast NC to offer scholarships and programs to make sailing available to all.
We have countless friends, family, and volunteers that help make sailing camp happen. We are grateful to all those who give of their time and efforts to help sailing in the region. Their dedication not only enriches the experience for our campers but also fosters a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. Together, we create an environment where learning and love for sailing can flourish, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beauty and adventure of the waters of the Eastern Shore. Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to promoting sailing in the region.
A little information about our 2025 Assistant Instructors:
~Most of our assistant instructors were students of the sailing camp at one point and time. We encourage students to stay with us and give back to younger generations through volunteering and then moving into up to be an instructor~
Neiley Guinan - Neiley has been with the program since its inception, either as a camper, volunteering her time and energy, or helping others learn. Neiley has since purchased her own Sunfish and consistently takes the lead whenever we are racing. Look for her at the finish line.
Olivia Reid - Olivia joins us with exceptional leadership skills. She started as a student in the program and has now transitioned to a teaching role. Despite attending prestigious camps during the summer, we are delighted to have her as one of our instructors.
Lucy Watkins - Lucy always greets us with a smile on her face. Actively involved in many programs and organizations on the Shore, including the Experimental Film Festival, we are thrilled to make time for her. Lucy participated as a camper in the program and is now actively serving as an instructor.
Ethan Dail - Ethan is a freshly certified US Sailing Level 1 Instructor. He and his brothers have been participating in the camp for the past three years. They collaborate with their dad to restore boats and cars and are often found on the water or in nature in some capacity.
Alex Corbitt- Alex has been sailing with his family for years. While in Cape Charles, they live aboard a 41ft Catalina! When Alex isn't out sailing, he is joining his Lacross team or Cobia fishing with his family.
Maysa Edwards - Our photo guru! We have some great moments throughout camp and Maysa helps us not miss a thing. Started out as a camper and is now the photo boat.
Awesome Volunteers! Jayden Edwards is our forever volunteer and leader of the band camp division. Elsie Irminger is willing to hop on any sailboat or take a jump in the water. Jordan Rae is often teaching younger students on our knot board.
Hannah Twiddy, is the leader of this sailing team. She has been teaching for over 15 years along the East Coast; though, sailing has taken her all around the world. When not sailing she researches in Healthy Aging around the world and how aspects of life lead to living well throughout life…Her passion is getting on the water and providing sailing opportunities for any who is willing to join!
